Living the Word of God

How To Stand on the Word

What does it mean to “stand on the Word?” Simply put. It means to find a scripture that relates to your situation then confess those results over your circumstances until you overcome or have victory over it. It seems simple, right? Well there is much going on before you get the end results of that scripture you are standing on. First, you must believe that you will receive what you are hoping for. The Bible tells us to meditate on the scripture. ”This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Joshua 1:8). Meditation makes the promises yours because you begin to believe that you too can have the same success over the enemies that others before you had. Then you have to fight the good fight of faith (1st Timothy 6:12) confession faith in God not the doubt of the enemy. Here’s a case in point. In Mark Chapter four, the Bible tells us how the enemy will come at us.

  • “Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them” (Mark 4:15 NIV).
  • “Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away” (Mark 4:16-17 NIV).
  • Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful (Mark 4:18-19 NIV).

Spiritual power was set up by the power of agreement. ““Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven” (Matthew 18:19 NIV). God says you can have something. At the same time, the devil says you can’t. Who will you agree with? Whoever you side with, that will be the outcome of what you receive.

Can you see how your doubt and unbelief of the Word of God keep you from receiving? People allow trouble or persecution, the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things keep them from receiving all the goodness that God has for you.

Let’s take this one step further. In the Beginning, God said (Genesis 1). He spoke into existence everything he wanted. Well in the Beginning, just as it is now, it’s the Holy Spirit who does the work.

“I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase” (1st Corinthians 3:6:). You must speak the Word (John 1:3,14) and expect God to perform the Words He spoke through you.
