Living the Word of God

What’s Missing?

If there was one thing that would dramatically change YOUR WORLD if you had it, what would it be?

SOME SAY MONEY:

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows (1st Timothy 6: 10 NLT).

Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own” (Luke 12:15 NLT).

OTHERS SAY HEALTH:

He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care. Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed (Isaiah 53:3-5 NLT).

STILL SOME OTHERS BELIEVE THAT MATERIAL WEALTH WILL COMPLETE THEM AND MAKE THEM HAPPY.

Then he told them a story: “A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops. Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods. And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”‘ “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’ “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God” (Luke 12:16-21 NLT).

What would drastically change your world if you had more of it? I believe the answer is LOVE.

I’m reminded of this childhood song:

Love is something that you give it away,

give it away,

give it away

Love is something that you give it away

Because you’ll end up having more.

It’s just like a magic penny

Hold it tight and you won’t have any

Spend it, Lend it, Give it away and it comes right back to you.

We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person? Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions (1st John 3:16-18 NLT).

People think that when they show love, they lose out. The world laughs believing that you are foolish but God looks down from heaven and smiles at you exclaiming well done my faithful servant. Then He rewards you with favor. Do what is pleasing to God and you will never regret it.
