Living the Word of God

What Must I Do To Be Saved?

And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved (Acts 2:21).

But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:8-10)

There are benefits of being “saved”. First you cross over from death to life.  When Adam disobeyed the Lord God’s command to not eat the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil from the tree in the middle of the garden, he basically handed over all authority on earth, originally given to Adam by the Lord God, to the devil. Thus by one man’s sin, all sin.

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness (Rom 6:12-13 NIV).

Romanos 6:12-13 RVR

What did Adam have before sin entered the world? First Adam had a relationship with our Creator unparalleled to anything we see on earth today. He walked with God on a daily basis.  I know that feeling. When I first got “saved” the first few days of my new salvation, I told everyone: “I got saved.” It started to fall on death ears to those who don’t know Christ Jesus. But for me, it started to make sense. I was able to pray for the needs of people and receive answers to all my petitions. I was able to fellowship with our Creator to ask for and receive guidance for my every waking step. And I have power over the temptations of life. See, before you are “saved” you are in bondage to sin. Sin is your master. Sin leads to death.

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned— Romans 5:12 NIV

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 NIV.

Rom 6:23 RVR

In the beginning, the laws (like the Ten Commandments) were written to show us how we were really hurting the true relationship of love between God and man and how we were to treat one another. If you walked in love, would you have to lie or hide your skeletons? No! People would be able to accept your human frailties and love you as you are. Why does it seem like as soon as one of your skeletons come out of your closet you can put your ear to the grapevine and hear stories about you. It shouldn’t be that way.

We are deceived when we run away from obedience to love. When we run we fall into doubt and unbelief, which is sin.

But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning (Romans 14:23 NLT).

There are no gaps in love. Love is all encompassing to do the best in every situation, towards everybody holding back nothing. What’s true even today is that God doesn’t hold no good thing back from you. All you have to do is ask Him in the name of Jesus and it will be given to you.

At that time you won’t need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name. You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy (John 16:23-24 NLT).

Because Adam was connected to God through love or in fellowship with God, every one of Adam’s physical needs were met.

He had FOOD – Genesis 1:29: Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.

He had WORK – Genesis 2:15: The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it (NLT).

He had COMPANIONSHIP  – Genesis 2:18: Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him” (NLT).

He had GOLD – Genesis 2:10-12: A river flowed from the land of Eden, watering the garden and then dividing into four branches. The first branch, called the Pishon, flowed around the entire land of Havilah, where gold is found. The gold of that land is exceptionally pure; aromatic resin and onyx stone are also found there (NLT).

That’s all the basic things we need in life, right? Well God took one step further when He created man. He, (God) gave man authority to rule over all of the earth (Genesis 1:28) When man disobeyed the commandment of the Lord, he (man) in fact, gave his authority to rule this world over to the devil and man’s life started to spiral downward. Instead of having the basic necessities of life, the devil put devices in place that made us lie, cheat and steal for what we once freely had when we were in fellowship with love. Then we started to see lack and division in all areas of our lives. Lack and division are some of the tools of the devil and the world he represents as the “god of this world.”  It is written here and in other places in the bible referring to satan as the god of this world.

2nd Corinthians 4:4 states: “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.”

When we run from love, we begin to feel a lack of security provided to our physical senses because of the sin and then we began to supplement one thing for another to substitute what was lost through our choice to sin. After some time, if you are anything like me, you come to find out that there’s something missing in your life. A substitute is never as good as the real thing. What God is doing is creating a desire within you to reestablish fellowship with Him, the Creator.

When Adam disobeyed the Lord God’s command, Adam broke the covenant of love and lost fellowship with God. It was so bad that when God came to walk amongst Adam in the garden of Eden, Adam knew he sinned and was so afraid to face God, Adam hid from God when He called out to him. Really, just as you can’t hide anything from yourself, you can’t hide anything from God.

When you ask the Lord Jesus to come into your life, you are in a sense admitting that you can’t live under the bondage of sin and want to regain the fellowship with God as it once was. And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved (Acts 2:21). Reestablish your fellowship with God today, then learn a new pattern of behavior that will restore what you once had when you were in fellowship with God. I can testify that being in fellowship with God will give you peace that surpasses all understanding now and for the rest of your years on earth and thereafter. Find a quiet place and quiet yourself. Then even if you have to talk to yourself confess your sins before the Lord. Then ask the Lord Jesus to come into heart to be your Lord and Savior. After that, it is very important that you begin to learn what a Christian is; what a Christian can do through Christ; and what does a Christian have here on earth that makes him different than all the rest of the people who don’t know Christ. Seek to know the Lord Jesus and change your behavior patterns to follow His. At first it requires a conscious decision but after awhile it become easier. Find people who are like minded. Take a step closer to God everyday. Every moment you are awake acknowledge His presence. Invite Him to help you with daily decisions by asking Him to help you navigate the course of life. Thank Him for those unctions you get as you follow His leading and guidance. As you take one step closer to God, you move one step further away from the devil. Put God first in everything you do. Read a little of the Bible everyday as if the Lord God Himself is talking to you because He loves you and He really is talking to you. You have to get to know His voice.. He truly wants the best for you but you must come to know who He is.

After you asked the Lord Jesus to become the Lord of your life, you are saved. It then becomes the first day of your new life. Picture yourself as a newborn baby. You don’t know anything. You have to learn everything new.

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2nd Corinthians 5:17.NLT

Welcome to the family of kings.
