Living the Word of God

What Happens When You Pray?

What makes prayer effective? An effective prayer is when you get the desired results. Prayer is the ability to enter into the spiritual realm and speak directly to the Creator of heaven and earth, the Lord God Almighty, about anything that concerns you and get an answer. There are many books about prayer and how to pray out there on the market because it’s one of the most important things one can learn to do – tap into the spiritual world. Many have tried to tap into the spiritual world with psychics, through mediums, voodoo, witchcraft, etc. Those ways are like entering through the back door and have not been authorized by God. Then there’s a type of entering the spiritual world through meditation. In fact, every religion on this earth teaches you about getting to the spiritual world so that you can get some things done. I’m not going to tell you how to pray because there are many ways you can pray. You can pray standing, kneeling, while walking, prostrate, basically as you can see, you can pray whenever you open your mouth. No, I’m not so concerned about the ways you can pray in that respect. Personally, I like praying on my knees to reverence the Lord God Almighty. But I have prayed in all those positions listed above and more.  What I’m more concerned about, when talking about prayer, is preparing your mindset for getting into the spiritual world. Teaching you what goes on behind the scenes of your prayers. And identifying some reasons why prayer won’t work. For me, it’s hard to bring you into the spiritual realm on paper because of the atmosphere that is created when you enter into the spirit realm. I will say this: once you get there, you will know it. The main reason for getting into the spiritual realm is to have an audience with God so that you can get some of the physical things in your world changed.

Don’t fool yourself. There is a spiritual realm just as there are three heavens. Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words describes the three heavens as:

1)      The aerial (James 5:18)

This is the first heaven, when we look up to the sky, just beyond the clouds, this would be what is known by us as our heaven.

2)      The Sidereal (Hebrews 1:10)

This is the Second heaven is where the devil and all his demons reside and

3) The eternal dwelling place of God (Matthew 5:16). Paul said: “I was caught up to the third heaven fourteen years ago. Whether I was in my body or out of my body, I don’t know—only God knows” (2 Corinthians 12:2).

My lessons from school and my personal study came this way.

From earth, your prayers go upwards to heaven. It is there where you see your situations the way God sees it (not what the devil convinced you to accept). If you are poor on earth, in heaven you are rich. If you have health problems on earth, in heaven you are whole, healthy with no defects. Get the picture? God is a good God and everything about Him and what He wants for you is also all good. And everything He has given you is also all good. Once you see what God has done for you in heaven, then you are to make claim to that situation with your words or the words written in the Bible, and get those promises from the third heaven, past the demons in the second heaven, to earth where it is manifested in your now physical world. Just as it is the job of the angels to get the promises to you, it is the demons who try to stop you from receiving what you saw as yours in heaven so that you what you saw is not manifested on earth.

He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling. Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia (Daniel 10:11-13).

Daniel prayed and it took 21 days before he got his answer because the demons in the second heaven tried to stop the angels from getting it to you.

Therefore, angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation (Hebrews 1:14 NLT).

The Angels have been assigned to you to help you with your stay on earth. They will get you what you need. “See, I am sending an angel before you to protect you on your journey and lead you safely to the place I have prepared for you” (Exodus 23:20).

If you could picture this: The angels takes your prayer requests up to heaven to the Lord Jesus our High Priest who then presents the requests to God. God then grants you your requests and the angles descend from heaven to bring it back to you on earth. Before they get here, the devil’s cohorts try their best to stop the angels from getting back to you. What really stop the angels from getting back to you are the words you say.  When you take sides with the devil, he wins. If you remain unchangeable on the Word of God, you win.

Here’s a truth from Matthew 18:19: Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.  I learned it from Brother Kenneth Copeland this way: God has said it one way about your situation which is always all good, and the devil said another way about your situation which will kill, steal or destroy your hopes and dreams. Who will you side with? What God says or what the devil says. You will get the results of whomever side you side with.

You can speak positive things about your situation all day long but the moment you speak one negative word about your situation, one word contrary to what you believe God for, you’ve just shifted the gear in reverse. You’ve turned your request 180 degrees and will receive the negative instead. That’s how it works. If you are going through the back door to tap into the spiritual realm and receive your answers from the devil, they are left over answers from other people’s prayers twisted by the demons and given to you to eventually do you harm. Take the higher road. Get to the throne of grace in the third heaven.

I don’t know why but God seems to have done things in threes: “The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19); Man was made spirit, soul and body (1st Thessalonians 5:23), a typical fast is 3 days), the three realms of the authority of Jesus: “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth” (Phil 2 19). So the devil really has no authority over you or your requests. Only what you permit when you side with him.

When you get into an attitude of prayer, you enter into a realm where there is no time as we know it here on earth. So what you see and claim to be yours might take actual time to reach you on earth. But if you seen it in heaven, it’s yours on earth. Everything in the spiritual world is NOW! (Now faith is).  If you go into your closet and shut the door, you will hear quietness. If you allow yourself to get lost in that quietness, you seem to enter into another sphere. Welcome to the spiritual realm.

These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Colossians 2:17 and

Hebrews 8:5 mentions that everything on earth is a “copy and shadow of what is in heaven.” Even in what’s known as “the Lord’s prayer,” (Matthew 6:10) we are admonished to choose what God has willed for us in heaven to be what we have on earth. It states: “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven.”  Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Math 6:10) gives us the authority to reach up into heaven and take what’s rightfully ours according to the blueprint in heaven, not the way we see it on earth and expected it to come to pass here on earth.

Other than speaking negative words, unforgiveness will stop the blessings of God from manifesting in your life. We all say, “God knows my heart.” If your heart’s motives aren’t right, chances are you won’t get your request either.

You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. James 4:2-3

When you have meditated on the promises of God until it becomes one with your spirit, that’s when scripture will roll off your lips. When talking to God, it (the scriptures) automatically comes out of your mouth.  It’s like you say “Daddy, you said ”Many are the afflictions  of the righteous,” but I know and believe because your word says it, you will deliver me out of this too” (Psalms 34:19). Scripture says I, I [am] He that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and I will not remember thy sins.  Put me in remembrance, let us plead together; rehearse thine own [cause], that thou mayest be justified. (Isa 43:25-26) Darby translation. We are to put God in remembrance of what He said concerning a situation. When you have confidence in knowing God hears your prayers, (1 John 5:14-15) He is willing and able to provide the corresponding results. (See 2 Sam 12:1-8) Remember, scripture says when you pray, believe that you receive what you prayed for and you shall have them (Mark 11:24). Pray the answer not just rehearsing the problem and what it looks like.  We have been given the inherited right to call things that are not as if they were (Rom 4:17, 2nd Corinthians 4:13). Just as an earthly father takes pleasure in teaching his son everything he knows about his craft, so the Holy Father is no different.  Adam called things that were not as though they were when he named every living creature (Gen 2:19). If that is the case, why are we trying to reinvent the wheel?  No wonder why your prayers don’t work. It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken. With that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak (2 Corinthians 4:13) Please saints (and sinners) look up these scripture references.  If we were in church I would go through them all so that the Holy Spirit would increase your faith.  I’m trust that you are doing the work because the lesson is placed before you to digest. Imagine today that everything you say will come to pass.  Believe what you speak because the Holy Spirit who resides in you does the work. Have a blessed day.
